Position: Communications Coordinator
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Position and Borough of Dunellen:

The Borough of Dunellen is a vibrant community dedicated to serving its residents and enhancing the quality of life within our Borough. We seek a Communications Coordinator to join our team and contribute to our mission of being open and transparent with our residents, workers, visitors, and other community members. In this role, you will be pivotal in supporting various offices, including the Mayor and Borough Administrator by performing a wide range of public information functions and other tasks as directed by the Mayor and Administrator.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Strong customer service and public relations skills
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities
  • Adept problem solver
  • Team Player
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Proficiency in Google and Microsoft Office applications
  • Municipal government experience, a plus 
  • Willingness to undergo training on various software platforms if needed

Responsibilities:

  • Implement a Dunellen’s Communication Strategic Plan. 
  • Plan and coordinate meetings and engagements with various municipal stakeholders as directed by the Mayor and Administrator
  • Coordinate, develop and oversee the messaging on behalf of the Office of the Mayor and the Borough as a whole 
  • Oversee the Borough website and Borough social media platforms
  • Assists in communications, video, and public relations for the Office of the Mayor and the Borough as a whole
  • Write and distribute press releases on behalf of the Borough
  • Design graphics for Borough communications, programs and events
  • Coordinate quarterly submissions for The Dunellen Report
  • Plan and coordinate town hall and other public meetings
  • Write submissions for publications, for example,  Next Stop Dunellen
  • Develop and create  bi-yearly tax insert
  • Coordinate yearly committee, commission, board and authority meetings, develop yearly Dunellen event schedules and help assist in support for government agencies
  • Oversee the Local Government Week information program
  • Assist the Borough Administrator in various duties to enhance the operations of the Borough
  • Assist in the research of federal, state, county, and municipal legislative matters and relevance to the Borough and coordinate communications from the Borough as such. 
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Office of the Mayor and Administrator

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of experience 
  • Successful completion of a two-year college-level course in public relations, marketing or a similar field may be substituted for two (2) years of the above experience
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus
